Aquascaping is a craft arranging aquatic plants, as well as stone, cavework, or driftwood, aesthetically in an aquarium-effect, gardening under water. Aquascape design includes a number of different styles, including a Dutch style garden-like and natural style of Japanese-inspired. Typically, home Aquascape fish and plants, although it is possible to make aquascape with plants only, or with rockwork or other hardscape and no plants. Many factors must be balanced in a closed system from the aquarium tank to ensure the success of an Aquascape. These factors include filtration, retains carbon dioxide at a level sufficient to support photosynthesis under water, substrate and fertilization, lighting, and control algae.
